Ijesa Youth Forum Donates Books, Pen, other stationeries to Inmates in Nigeria Correctional Center
In a remarkable act of philanthropy, the Ijesa Youth Forum (IYF), National Headquarters on Saturday donated much-needed educational supplies to inmates at the Nigerian Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ilesa, Osun State.
Led by the General Secretary of Ijesa Youth Forum, Mr. John Rotimi Fakanlu, and the Welfare Officer, Miss Pelumi Adebowale, the IYF team handed over 200 copies of exercise books, two packs of pens, and a pack of temporary markers to the Officer in charge of the tutorial programme at the correctional center.
While handing over the items which includes exercise books, pens, markers, and other stationery items, the IYF General Secretary, Mr. John Rotimi Fakanlu noted that the exercise is aimed at supporting inmates' educational pursuits and aid their preparation for the upcoming WAEC and NECO examinations.
The National President of the Federation of Ijesa Students' Union, Com. Ayobami Adedeji, was also present during the donation.
Speaking with newsmen on the development, President of the Ijesa Youth Forum, Engr. Olufemi Michael Oluwatoba stressed that the decision came after receiving credible information from a reliable source regarding the urgent need for educational resources for those preparing to take the WAEC and NECO exams in the correctional center.
According to the President, "Recognizing the importance of education in the rehabilitation and reintegration process, the IYF promptly organized the donation drive to address this pressing need."
Engr. Oluwatoba expressed his admiration for the inmates' determination to continue their education despite the challenges they face, just as he emphasized the IYF's commitment to supporting educational opportunities for all members of the community, including those who find themselves in correctional facilities.
"We believe that education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and open doors to a brighter future. By providing these educational supplies, we hope to inspire and empower the inmates to pursue their educational goals and contribute positively to society upon their release." He said.
The supplies will be utilized in tutorial sessions, enabling inmates to study and prepare effectively for their upcoming exams.
Also present at the presentation of the items includes the National President of the Federation of Ijesa Students' Union (FISU), Comr. Ayobami Adedeji, who praised the Ijesa Youth Forum for their initiative and urged other organizations and individuals to emulate their example.
